Project Description

We conducted a countywide child care demand study for Summit County communities. The study focused on quantitative data analysis, socioeconomic trends, and projections of child care demand by age and type of care. The outcome of the study was a demand model that projected child care needs currently and in five years.

Unique aspect of this study

Population forecasts for the county, supported by birth trends, indicate a rapid increase of young children—and a significant need for additional child care in coming years. This is a reversal of trends during the Great Recession, when many families had to leave the county due to the economic downturn.
