Breckenridge, CO Child Care Needs Assessment

In early 2007, we conducted a needs assessment for the Town of Breckenridge to help town council better direct general funds designated to child care services. We interviewed child care providers, conducted surveys of parents, analyzed demographic data, and developed a model that estimated the demand for child care slots at different age levels, now and in five years. As a result of the study, the town funded an expansion of a child care center to provide more infant slots.

In 2016, and again in 2018, we provided a comprehensive update to that report. The update included interviews with existing providers and town staff, a survey of child care users and potential child care users (households with children living in the region), and demographic data analysis related to household composition changes and economic trends. The study evaluated current and future demand to inform strategic initiatives related to child care funding and service expansion.
